We have gotten off to a great start so far this year! Lots of action in December: two tournaments–El Dorado and Megatron–and 4 scrimmages: Valdez, two San Clemente scrimmages, and Laguna Hills/Marco Forrester Middle School. As we move into January, we have a lot of momentum!
Here are some highlights:
*At the El Dorado tournament, we had 28 competitors, 16 medalists, 7 of them first place. Nate Garrison, Will Garrison, Craig Phoenix, Jake Herrera, Osten Dandan, Diego Garcia, Max Park, Caleb Park, Max Callas, all medaled. Jorge Gonzalez, Ian Rudner, Kyler Petronis, Josh Bentley, Treyvon Shodja, William Burks, and Sam Callas all took first.
*Osten Dandan was nominated our first wrestler of the week for his gutsy performance.
*At Megatron, 3 out of 7 Big Kats medaled: Trey, Brock Kenney, and Caleb Park. All came away with some great experience. Tough tournament!
San Clemente scrimmage:
We are looking forward to a great 2015!
Our youth club continues its success. Recently we had great scrimmages vs Laguna Hills and Marco Forrester, and tournaments at San Clemente and Fountain Valley. The kids got great experience at all events, and we continue to bring home some great hardware at tournaments. Most recently, Caleb Park was awarded our first “Wrestler of the Month” for his recent performances, including a second place finish in the advanced division at Fountain Valley.
He is an exciting wrestler to watch. He is incredibly aggressive and attacks the legs non-stop.
Caleb’s accomplishments are extraordinary, for he is only a second year wrestler. He has worked very hard in the offseason, and it shows. He is defeating wrestlers who have many years more experience than he does, and is doing very well in the advanced division at tournaments. Hats off to him for all his hard work!
Friday, Nov 1, the CVHS Wrestling Booster Club will host a 1 day wrestling clinic from 8am-3pm during CUSD’s “student free day.”
This is a great opportunity for you to get some cost-effective childcare while your child has fun and learns about a new sport at the same time.
Requested donation is $45. Lunch will be provided. For those that bring their own lunch, requested donation is $40.
The location is Capistrano Valley High School’s wrestling room.
Clinic is limited to the first 35 that register. To register, email firstname.lastname@example.org and provide your child’s name and grade level.
One of our very own, Brayden Phoenix, will be hittin up the competition at the Las Vegas Freak Show in a few weeks. This is a tough tournament. Brayden, along with a handful of other BK wrestlers, have been training hard with coach Hall lately. Good luck Brayden!
We have elected to not continue our Little Big Kats Class for the remainder of the winter. We still continue with our regular weekly program though. For more info on that, see the session info tab above or email email@example.com
This season we have a new class: the “Little Big Kats” class. This is an introductory youth sports class for Mission Viejo, San Juan Capistrano, and surrounding Orange County youth for the sport of wrestling. For young athletes in grades K-3, it is designed to teach them basic wrestling skills in a low key and fun environment. Each session includes not only basic skills instruction, but lots of games, and bodyweight calisthenics. Runs on Saturdays from 10-11:15 starting Dec 7 and running concurrent with the regular program through February. Each session is $7.
To register, follow the instructions on our “Session information” page. Note: t-shirt/shorts/singlet only comes with enrollment in the regular weekday program, not the “Little Big Kats” class.
Our winter session information is up! You can find by clicking on the “session” tab above.
